Emotional burnout in nursing: a CARE project seminar

As part of the CARE project, a seminar was held on the topic of professional burnout among nurses.

Burnout was discussed not as mere fatigue, but as a consequence of chronic stress that cannot be overcome simply by ‘taking a break’. A condition that develops gradually and affects not only one’s well-being but also the sense of purpose in work and professional effectiveness.

During the seminar, participants explored:

 — the differences between stress, fatigue and burnout;

 — which factors at work have the greatest impact on exhaustion (high workload, emotional involvement, responsibility);

 — how burnout manifests itself — from physical fatigue to loss of motivation and emotional detachment;

 — what a state of resourcefulness looks like and how to restore it.

Particular attention was paid to working with one’s own resources: how to monitor them, what depletes them, and what actually helps to recover within the daily work routine.

The event was led by the project’s senior psychologist, Svitlana Sasyuk. The seminar combined explanations of complex processes in simple language with practical elements that can be applied in the workplace.

The “CARE” project is implemented by the European Ukrainian Council for Cooperation and Development (EUCCD) with the support of the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic as part of the MEDEVAC czech in partnership with the Volyn Regional Clinical Hospital.
