Caring for those who save lives: EUCCD launches the CARE Programme
The European Ukrainian Council for Cooperation and Development (EUCCD) is launching a comprehensive programme to provide psychological support and prevent burnout among the nurses and nurse practitioners of the Volyn Regional Clinical Hospital.
Nurses and nurse practitioners represent the first line of patient care – those who carry the primary burden of daily clinical work and ensure stability within the hospital. During wartime, their responsibilities have multiplied: constant exposure to complex and high-stress clinical cases is now combined with heightened professional and emotional pressures. Under such conditions, the risks of emotional exhaustion and professional burnout become critically high.

CARE is a programme designed to strengthen the professional and emotional resilience of nurses and nurse practitioners. It includes the work of a team of qualified psychologists, targeted support activities for medical staff, the creation of accessible mechanisms for rest and recovery, and the development of recommendations aimed at integrating effective well-being practices into the hospital’s long-term operations.
Supporting the mental health of Ukrainian nurses and nurse practitioners is an investment in the resilience of hospitals, communities, and the country as a whole.
The CARE project is implemented by the European Ukrainian Council for Cooperation and Development (EUCCD) with the support of the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic under the MEDEVAC Programme, in partnership with the Volyn Regional Clinical Hospital.
